Hey everybody, we're all gonna get laid.

So much going on today!

Reporting from London -- If history records a sudden surge in carbon emissions on Wednesday, it may be due to the collective exhalation of relief and joy by the hundreds of millions -- perhaps billions -- of people around the globe who watched, waited and prayed for Barack Obama to be elected president of the United States.

Gordo goes down in flames. It's about time. There've been a number of letters to the editor of the local paper from Eastern Oregon whining that, if the state elects two Democratic Senators they won't be represented. To this I simply say "STFU and sit down." 1) If Gordon Smith had been a real Republican moderate in the mold of Bob Packwood or Tom McCall he would've been Senator for life and 2) In Texas over 2 million people voted for challenger Rick Noriega in his unsuccessful bid to defeat John Cornyn. Those 2 million people have no representation in the U.S. Senate by this weird logic.

As far as I'm concerned the far right has had more than enough representation in the nation's capital these last twenty years.

"Jurassic Park" author Michael Crichton is dead. I've enjoyed a lot of his earlier work but his recent cranky pseudo-scientific scepticism towards the concept of human activity contributing to global warming has caused me to question his greatness as a sci-fi writer.

Not to toot my own horn too much but in a fake article from the future I wrote back on October 10th I had this: A state-by-state breakdown of those returns gave the President-elect more than 345 electoral votes, a commanding victory in the Electoral College, which requires 270 for election. His victory included states such as North Carolina and Virginia given to choosing Republican candidates in the last several Presidential elections.

I should buy a lottery ticket.

Ubermilf and randal graves have posts that riff off of "Caddyshack" and "Animal House" respectively. I've seen that latter film a couple of times...

These four photos say everything about the election.

So, c'mon already, what are the Powerball numbers?

Oh, great, now the races are coming together to bring whitey down. Hope you're happy, you dirty hippies.

This is certainly in dispute, but what isn't is the massively lie-brul media munchie machine ready to take poor, meek Republicans down at every opportunity. All they want to do is enact Jesus' Plan on Earth.

On to socialism, comrades! (Wait, am I mixing something up here?)

There are many Eastern Oregonians that recognize that their ability to live in quiet peace in the Oregon outback is the result of city dollars paying disproportionately for their roads, goods and services, and schools. While their cows graze on BLM land and they pay no property tax for growing wheat, trees, and more on thousands of acres of land, those of us in the city take up that share of the load on our 1/8 or 1/4 acre plots. Unfortunately, the wingnuts don't print those letters.

I agree about Michael Crichton.

Here in Indiana there are more than a few grumbles about Obama being president. Tough!

And did you know Michael Crichton is originally from Chicago? I didn't until I read his Obit today.

OK. Straight up. Big time thanks for showing the connection to those photos..... flopped what has been a crappy day at the office for me right back into the Happy Column. Thanks.

Crichton was never a "great" sci-fi author- he wrote very engaging, easy-to-read, formulaic thrillers that often had a sci-tech basis. I have read (and enjoyed) most of his books, but they're pot-boilers. He had a gift for creating the illusion that he (and the reader) understood the science behind the story... but it was an illusion. His characters were very flat, particularly his females. And no book has ever left me as angry as "State of Fear," because I felt he was intentionally misleading the reader; he knew perfectly well how he was distorting the evidence, but I guarantee that most of the book's readers didn't.

And I did get to hear the concession speech before his bedtime. I'm so relieved that this one did not drag out - even for a day.

randal-

for you the powerball numbers are 6,6,6,6,6,6 powerball 6.

don-

They're living off our teat! Or teats.

Point taken.

liberality-

Yeah, Crichton wrote some pretty good fiction which had an air of science about it due to his medical background, but the global warming stuff really made him look like a kook.

okjimm-

Welcome. It is a pretty happy series of photos.

lockwood-

I dunno, "Jurassic" was pretty good but I agree on State of Fear. In fact much of his later work has been crap.

Thoughtcriminal-

Agreed.

Dean- It just so happens that I disagree with you for once. Your friend's weird logic is true and because Noriega lost, I am not being represented in the Senate. But, we'll have to rely on your progressive Oregonians' representatives to represent us. Oh, and thanks for electing Obama, guys. I personally promise to deliver Texas as a blue state in 2012, me and the majority of people here who are of color and the Texas Democratic Party which intends to register tons of new people to vote.
