Well, he doesn't eat much, but he's a regular jackass, and hee-haw, hee-haw, he hawlways likes to be called Arthur.

In his prebuttal to Obama's speech last night Senator John McCain said he was an "agent of change."

"As the Senator from Illinois I am honored to be the first black nominee of a major party for the office of the presidency," McCain said. "Michelle and I are blessed."

McCain's remarks were cut short when aides pushed him into a straight jacket, then quickly ushered him off the stage using cattle prods.

I love you, Honey Bunny.

You're probably aware of two of John McCain's high profile endorsements. Last week he won the endorsement of bigoted televangelist John Hagee.

Just today George W. Bush dropped the banana he was eating, climbed down from the trees in the Rose Garden and endorsed McCain as well ("Ook, ook, eek. John McCain.") The president then gamely checked the senator for ticks.

In the midst of that you've probably missed some other important endorsements that McCain had wrangled out of people just as famous and just as well thought of as the preacher and the Chief Executive.

Khan Noonien Singh - "I'm happy to support John McCain for the White House because he's got a plan for ending illegal immigration and because he's most likely to start the Genetics Wars bringing about the fall of non-bio engineered humans."

Sanjaya- "John McCain has just the lovely singing voice the president should have."

Mr. Blonde - "I love John's stance on torture."

As you can see the list of McCain supporters is quite impressive.

As my old pappy used to say, a fox isn't sly; he just can't think any slower.

On the McCain thing---

I'm sure a lot of you guys had the same reaction I did when hearing about this: who cares? It's not like I didn't know the guy was a scumbag and had already had no intention of voting for him.

But a quick glance at this afternoon's news is making me extremly uncomfortable. This whole thing is starting to remind me of the George Bush National Guard/ CBS/ Killian Memos controversy in which the story became the story. The results of that brouhaha effectively innoculated Bush from legitimate questions about his military service for the remainder of the election.

I'd hate to have a lack of proof of scumbaggery on McCain's part innoculate him in the same way from much more substantative accusations of scumbaggery later in the election. Much of the almost unanimous push-back by conservative howler monkeys against this story can be attributed to their recognition that they may be able to get the larger media to think twice before reporting on McCain's ethical problems in the near future.

As for the media participation in the push-back (most of the cable news networks are rushing to McCain's defense) the consensus on progressive blogs seems to pin this on conservative bias. It could be that. More likely it's the fact they they want the Presidential election to be a horse race. That will hardly be a possibility if McCain goes down in flames so early in the election.

Remember: it's always all about them.

As my old pappy used to say, work is fine for killin' time, but it's a shaky way to make a living.

Congratulations to McCain on his big win yesterday! He has a 50% of inheriting the mess he and Bush made. Must feel great.

Jesus, this guy's good!

Wow. McCain is 'reshaping' the GOP race.

So instead of this -

It will look like this -

Just a walk in the park Kazansky.

So Maverick is now saying we were "misled" on the difficulty of the Iraq war.

I think one of the biggest mistakes we made was underestimating the size of the task and the sacrifices that would be required,” McCain said. “Stuff happens, mission accomplished, last throes, a few dead-enders. I’m just more familiar with those statements than anyone else because it grieves me so much that we had not told the American people how tough and difficult this task would be.

His "grief" might be a tad bit more believable if he hadn't spent the Presidential election humping George Bush's leg like Mini-Me.

As my old pappy used to say, if at first you don't succeed, try something else.

Our own principled Maverick John McCain told the Iraqi government that the American public is losing patience with the conflict and that they need to quickly form a unity government.

It's nice to know John McCain is willing to buck the system and cut out on his own. Especially when most Americans now consider the Iraq war a mistake. *SNARK* Way to show us some of that "straight talk" you're so well known for.

But then McCain has repeatedly demonstrated that, in a profession known for it's allegiance to bullshit, he'll be second to none in his willingness to pretend or say anything in order to score political points. He could have spoken out against the war and the poor execution of same at any time during the last three years but he chose to sit on his hands until the tide of public opinion turned.

I've wondered of late what the young, heroic John McCain would say if he were somehow able to meet this older, shallower Senatorial incarnation of his former self. Would he be ashamed at pandering and posing? Would he see what we see see; a man whipped so badly by George W. Bush during the 2000 primaries that he's rolled over like an abused dog? The younger McCain had the guts to survive torture by the North Vietnamese during the war. The older McCain throws his principles out the door at the first hint of tickle-torture by Bush and Rove.

Unlike Senator McCain, I can't believe that the younger McCain would find much in common with a man who used his surrogates to defame the service of a decorated fellow soldier. Much less a man that dishonorably slandered his own wife and family.

McCain has become the best example yet of a Potempkin Senator. Built for the cameras but when you open the door and peak inside there's nothing of substance.
