You have been weighed, you have been measured, and you have been found wanting.

I would swear we just had an election. Which side won again?

OMG! I love that movie. Weird that you posted it now, been just over a year since Heath died.

How long until "hope" turns to "despair?" I'm already at "cynicism."

Damn it, Randal! You win again! Curses.

Once again, behold the Unyielding Cosmic Power of Despair! Muahahahahahaha!

Hey, when the equation is fascist lunatics + center-right candyasses + center-left yet generally ill-informed Murka + the geniuses that we internets types are, the only possible solution is complete fuckery for all save those that had a few bucks beforehand.

I've never seen that flick. Mommy digs it. Your take, good sir?

I don't think anyone won really.

And that is one of my favorite quotes from that movie as well.

when they allow themselves to be waylaid by a small minority then it is obvious to me they aren't really as progressive as they make out--but what else is new?

"I feel funny. Is this real life? I have two fingers... four fingers. Aaaaauuuuuugghhhhhh! Why is this happening to me? Is this going to be forever?" If you don't recognize the source of this summary of my reactions to current news, see this clip.

Contrary to the song stylings of that master of the parody song, Pres. Obama is not a Magic Negro.

He may not be the messianic figure that some believed him to be but I'll give him this: He's 'not as good as' but he's certainly 'much better than'.

He's the most scrutinized president in history. So much so, that the smallest misstep looks like a tumble. We've gone from '100 days' to '100 hours'. It took Bush years to f-up our country and destroy our reputation. Give Mr. Obama a while to see if he can fix it.

Nautical metaphor: you don't have to make a big course change to avert danger and get back on course; that can often be dangerous itself. A course change of 2 degrees won't seem like a lot at first, but it all works out eventually.

Oh, and Dean, I'm just curious. Your movie quote/screen snap intros are the best. Do you actually own all of these DVDs or just have a photographic memory for lines/scenes?

Mommy-

That film has really grown on me although the modern music rubbed me the wrong way first time I saw it. Of course my teenager love it.

ubermilf-

Yup, pretty depressing. Won what? You and randal have a bet going?

Randal-

The movie is pretty good on it's own. As I mentioned above- it's got all sorts of modern music. For example- it opens at a joust where the medieval crowd is singing "We will rock you" by Queen. It takes a while to get used to.

MC-

Best part is when all the good guys throw the quote back at the badguy at the end.

Liberality-

Yup. But I know there are real progressives in Washington. Why aren't they doing more?

Lockwood-

That's pretty funny. After a trip to the dentist I can see why you're messed up.

Arkonbey-

I'm not blaming Obama yet. I think our problem is more media/ Washington centered. They are at least 10 to 20 years behind the rest of the country.

As for quotes- I'm all over the place. I do watch wayyyy too many movies and I do read or hear news stories and have a quote pop into my head. But just as often I write something and then think of a movie that might have that theme and then IMDB the quotes.

About a third of the pix are pix I grabbed myself off of DVDs I own. I really like it to be the exact moment the line is said, although that's not always possible.
