You know, there's only been one man in my whole life who's ever made me happy. Do you know that?

Just a quick observation on the state of the presidential race even though I'm trying hard to avoid political news.

I did see some of the coverage of Obama's trip overseas, McCain's sniping at same and the media's reaction to all of that and all I can say is that I am now convinced that Barack Obama should not under any circumstances debate John McCain.

Don't get me wrong. Barack Obama is light years more intelligent than John McCain. He understands the issues backwards and forwards. If it was just you, I and these guys sitting down at a kitchen table and discussing issues Barack would wipe the table the geezer.

No, the problem isn't Barack Obama. The problem is the media. Specifically the media's interest in changing the narrative of the presidential race as it's developed to this point. A narrative that favors Obama, despite their best efforts to keep the race close.

The media is looking for any opening to roll out the "McCain is the Comeback Kid" stories they've had saved on their laptops since the general election began. The conventions and debates are going to provide opportunities for that. The actual results of both won't be important. What's important is that the media will be able to seize on any small circumstance of either, magnify it and twist it into something greater and push hard to put John McCain back in this race.

It's not like anything substantive is discussed in the debates anymore anyway. Obama should just say no.

Hold on now, you need to just accept what the media tells you and be happy. Right?

Oliver Willis points out just one of these silly stories. And then of course there is this bit.

I Am hoping that you will fill the post at my administration for the Minister of Edumacation, Dean Wormer. I need a competent individual that will rule the schoolz with an iron fist, and keep the delinquents at Delta House at bay.

But if he doesn't debate McCain the media will use that to beat him over the head. I don't think he'll have a choice but to muddle through that part. It's not like regular people watch the debates anymore anyway because they usually don't. The media is going to try to make this a close race no matter what because their corporate masters demand that they do so. That way Diebold can step in and steal the election without raising too many eyebrows. So our job is to call the media on their crap and scream bloody murder about it--yes, we will have to work hard to keep them honest.

I agree with Dr. Monkey, the media's got your back mate! They wouldn't do anything to sway your opinion or anything. Totally impartial.

Forget Dr. Zaius - I will double your salary and offer you any position you want that isn't already taken. Perhaps you might wish to be Minister of Propoganda. Double your salary of zero, plus lack of health care. And free beer, and cheese, and as much chocolate cake and happy underpants that you desire.

Well, it would make things easier.

zaius-

That note at the western wall did have the feel of the teacher intercepting a love note in class. Stupid all the way around.

I appreciate the offer as Secretary of Edumacation. I've always dreamed of reading books to elementary children during times of national crisis only to have some knucklehead aide whisper in my ear...

But diva has offered me a bigger office, happier underpants, beer (domestic I'm sure) and cheese (also American.)

So you'll forgive me if I drop Obama's message of hope for diva's message of hops.

Liberality-

Agreed. Media wants a toss up. I hate those guys.

The smartass is strong with this one. :-)

Hot damn, okjimm's beer strategery is working!

As little faith as I have in the American experiment that is democracy, even I realize that if the media were to spontaneous combust or be abducted by 72,000 flying saucers, Obama could hide out in his house and watch reruns of Family Guy while stuffing his gullet full of Sour Cream and Onion potato chips for the next three months and still probably win.

THAT is how toxic the media has become. Well, maybe a month and three weeks. He should probably pop out around Halloween.

Dean, that's not the change you want

That's OK, Dean. I have decided to align my campaign's educational platform with that of Delta House. We are going to encourage American students to become fat, drunk, and stupid. (Wotta ya know! It's already the status quo!) Good luck in your new position as Junior Pledge Representative to the Social Committee... Gotta go! I am off to buy ten thousand marbles.

Wait are you saying that wealthy white power brokers who control the message disseminated to the public might have agendas of their own, not tied to the best interests of the political process and the American people?

My sister fears that no matter what either McCain or Obama does, McCain will win because of racism.

I fear she's right.

That doesn't exactly pertain to your post, I'm just voicing despair.

Excellent. I love interns!

Delta? I HATE those guys.

Well once you put it that way it does sound pretty silly.

It is an interesting question. The irresistable force (racism) against the immovable object (Bush incompetence.)

Which will win out?
