Reticence of Mainstream Media Becomes a Story Itself
Did the MSM drop the ball on John Edwards?
Wingnuts are doing a dance of joy today. After years of flogging stories that amounted to nothing but paranoid right wing fantasy, they finally got something right. I think the Infinite Monkey Theorem best describes their track record on the truth.
The idea that the mainstream media fell down on the job because it didn't cover a story which broke in the supermarket tabloids is absurd. When you break it down this story really isn't relevant and certainly not worthy of the shitstorm that covered the networks yesterday and today.
We have to push back hard against media navel-gazing on this. They were correct to blow off the whiners of the right who've been complaining for weeks that this story was being ignored. The cartoon world that conservatives live in already permeates to too great of an extent into reality. We don't need the media taking them any more seriously than they already do.

Perhaps an infinite number of MSM journalists can stare at their navels and eventually find something remotely relevant to write about.
Well, maybe they can stop looking at their damn navels and look at:
1. Georgia pulling 2000 troops out of Iraq to fight Russia. (Those troops were stationed between the Iraqi Shi'ite militias and Iran.)
2. Iraq in general
3. Afghanistan in general
4. Darfur
5. Huge spike in US inflation
6. China refusing the visa of an American athlete because he holds an opinion.
No, they choose to talk about Harley's, infidelity, and tire gauges instead. There mere fact that you need to point out how stupid it is shows how far our national culture has gone down the toilet. The average 11 year old of 2 decades ago could recognize what the adults of today cannot. Disgusting.
Affirmative to what don snabulus said.
Off topic, but the movie "The Road" comes out in November. Hope it does not end up being prophetic (if say, a certain geezer wins the election. '''''shudder'''').
Dean,
Have you read the book "Cod" by Mark Kurlansky (been out since '97, but I just stumbled across it recently)? I found it quite fascinating.
But I'm odd that way
People fuck. I am so over it!
(can you tell I am annoyed? its not you.)
Yes, Franiam, they do. That's why they keep multiplying.
"More" does not equate to "Better."
fran, people do indeed fuck but it was a Democrat having heterosexual relations. If that's not a national travesty, I don't know what is. Look, another country is on fire! Cool!

Now that you mention it there's not much difference between journalists and monkeys. Especially when it comes to flinging poo.

Great points.

I'd go younger. :-)

I'm excited to see The Road if only because they filmed some of it here locally. I have yet to read the book.
Hadn't heard of Cod. What's it about?

But not MARRIED people.

Except with pizza. Then I'd have to disagree.

I can't figure out the formulation. Democrats say people are too hung up on sex and we ought to ignore what they do in the bedroom but hey, here's a democrat doing something nasty in a bedroom. Hypocrite!
It just makes no sense.
Really, everyone KNOWS that screwing around on your wife or husband is much more dangerous than waterboarding, or ignoring the Constitution, or fighting illegal wars.
I think it's way overblown; this week's shiny object.
What I find completely fascinating is that here's this whole Russia/Georgia thing, and our lovely Sec. of State, whose expertise is supposedly on US/Russian relations is nowhere to be seen, and is ineffective to the point of useless.
News of substance, but media'd rather have nooky stories. Pffftt.

Ah, but adultery is not the crime. The crime is lying to the media and making them look stupid. Or more stupid than they normally look.

Hadn't thought of that. Good point about Rice. This was supposed to be the one area she knew something about. Color me shocked that it was bullshit.
Hey, when is the news media gonna talk about Bush's Drinking, his marital problems, and his affair with Condi? I saw all these as headlines on the tabloids at the supermarket.

Not to mention the fact that Laura beats him.
