Quint over at AICN has a review of the movie "Vacancy" (which I have no interest in seeing- ever) that begins by ripping one of the biggest issues I have with going to the movies these days: obnoxious, loud, rude theater-goers that talk through the whole damn movie.
The Alamo Draft House with the strict no-talking policy that he mentions just happens to be the dream business I'd like to own someday. It's franchised throughout Texas and a couple of steps past Cinetopia or any of theater/ restaurants we have out this way. If anybody has a spare million in capital please let me know...

The talking is bad, but I think the ultra high-volume blasting of commercials before the previews is worse. I also think the shut up moment is when the movie starts, not before.
I am sorry, but previews are advertisements and after 2 of them, I start to get annoyed and reserve the right to talk until the movie starts, especially since previews are almost comically similar and cliche` laden from one to the next.
Also, that guy's movie-rage at AICN caused the talker's to get worse. The old phrase, you catch more flies with honey...applies here.
I've never had really big problems with people talking at movies...maybe I am lucky.
Ha Ha, yes we do tend to pull what I like to call "MS3TK" comments during the the so-called "20", and sometimes the previews.
But we shut up once the movie starts..
- we did have some folks get up and move away from us (the lights were still on), but it's only 'cuz I think they were fundie types, and didn't like our delightful right-wing skewering of certain propaganda bits.
I can't stand talking, but before the show starts is OK. I'm gonna have to suck it up for Spiderman though...
...the talking... not the webs...
I think it's kind of gone from no talking during the commercials to no talking once the movie starts to talking is okay the entire time since you paid to get in.
I've had a lot of bad experience with this which could just be bad luck.
On the other hand - I've seen a couple of horror films where talking pretty much enhanced the experience.
LB-
I've found that the only downside to introducing your kids to MST is that they can't watch anything without going into Joel/ Mike/ Crow/ Servo mode. Most of the time that's pretty entertaining but it can also be hard to get 'em to turn it off on the rare occasion it's something we actually want to watch.
