I'm sure we'll all be so thankful the General wasn't tagged as the lying pol he is and can now stand once again before congress once again and tell us how swimmingly things are going in Iraq and why Iran must be blown to smithereens without a moment to lose without his integrity or, God forbid, his honesty coming into question. Great job on that guys. Real bang-up work there. Really.

Patience until January 20, 2009. On January 21, if a Dem occupies the White House, the endless chorus of "why won't you get us out? Do you enjoy watching Americans die?" begins.
Good point. I assume the officers in uniform that serve the democratic president will not be so sacrosanct.
Kinda strange that General Petraeus can be in charge of our troops and lead the fight, but he can't handle an ad by MoveOn.
And ditto to what Randal said.
Harken back to the days when we were told that this administration would be run by an MBA.
Okay, Harvard MBA - your CEO of the military division hasn't managed to turn around the sinking situation at your flagship brand. Even after you've thrown a gazillion dollars and thousands of extra troops. Not to mention the outside consultants. Who now outnumber actual employees of yours. Whacha gonna do now Le Roi Enfant?
In math terms, Petraeus is the competence reciprocal value of, let's say, General Norman Schwarzkopf (who warned against this latest war). So,
Petraeus = 1/(Schwarzkopf)
Lipstick, meet pig.

But the MoveOn ad was MEAN and was put together by a bunch of big meanies, so it's different.
jess-
Ah, but you know the only result that mattered was accomplished - time was bought to let this president slink out of office without admitting error or fixing his own mess.
That was the only mission the MBA accomplished.

That equation is straight on. The pig doesn't look very kissable. Not that I've ever kissed a pig. Or any farm animal. Never mind...
"The horror. The horror. The horror."
The honest assessment.
By the way, though I didn't comment on that thread, your accident story scared the BeJebus out of me.
Now I just hope the asshole stays out.
spirula,
Nice Brando impression. :)
So many quotes from that flick play to the situation in Iraq...
Thanks for the comments on the accident. It's turned into a big mess and I can see it's going to suck up a bunch of what little free time I have these days.
WTF?
Was that a vote to say "Shut the fuck up to the naysayers?"
Seriously...
"Statement of Purpose: To express the sense of the Senate that General David H. Petraeus, Commanding General, Multi-National Force-Iraq, deserves the full support of the Senate and strongly condemn personal attacks on the honor and integrity of General Petraeus and all members of the United States Armed Forces."
Or what? (is the scary question)
I'm just glad that you didn't make a joke about how "Petraeus" rhymes with "Zaius."
freida-
Exactly. That's how it reads to me. I love how it's also worded so Petraeus and, by extension his boss, are lumped in there with the troops.
It's a non-binding sense of the senate resolution but still a big "fuck you" to everybody in the reality based community.
zaius-
You would look good with a chest full of medals. I can see the inscriptions now: "Best Underpants"
"Congressional Medal of Poo-Flinging" and campaign ribbons for the "Great Dance Party of 08" and "The Necco Campaign."
deja vu all over again. Is it 2007 or 2008
So many quotes from that flick play to the situation in Iraq...
"Maliki don't surf!"
swine-
Or 2006?
spirula-
Baghdad... shit. I'm still only in Baghdad.
Dean,
Excellent!
"Hey soldier, do you know whose in command here?"
"Ain't you?"
You're right, this can go on forever.
