The minute you start they put you on the all-American sucker list. You start out to build a home and wind up in the poorhouse.
Please think about what Duncan is pointing out here and tell me it doesn't piss you off as much as it does me.
In the current mortage crisis there are predatory lenders and there are victims of predatory lenders. The government is riding to the rescue of the former and (so far) giving a finger to the latter.
The mortgage crisis is the domestic war in Iraq. All we heard was how everything was gonna get better real soon, but like Iraq, with it’s poor planning and the complicity of the news media, it’s a total meltdown. The only folks the Bush administration is helping happen to be crooked bankers? Of course, look who is profiting off of Iraq, Halliburton and their ilk.
It is infuriating. There really is no free market. If there was a free market rich people would lose everything once in a while. That just doesn't happen.

I'm torn between 2 sarcastic quips:
1. Wow, behold the "genius of the market!"
2. What if the government injected $43 billion into people and infrastructure in 2 days? Oh yeah, that would be another "New Deal." Not allowed.
And don't forget we all get to help pay off the national debt - even if we DON'T have a mortgage.
yay!
