You know what Jack Burton always says... what the hell?

Help me with this.

First the media tells us there's not enough rice but then former president Jimmy Carter tells us there's too much Rice.

Who to believe?

I would tend to believe Carter over just about anyone, yes even Hillary.

I don't know what the deal is on the rice but it seems to have started a panic. It reminds me of when we get a hurricane warning here. People run out and buy all sorts of crazy stuff, like loaves and loaves of bread. Bread goes stale after just a few days and forget freezing it because if your power is out nothing stays frozen.

Too much Rice. Any Rice is too much Rice, she being the demon who created the Room of the Upside-Down Hell.

(Yes, one of my favorite John Carpenter movies, though I'd swear he channels Ed Wood for some of his flicks.)

Oh, and Kim Cattrall AND Suzee Pai...Hubba-hubba.

like loaves and loaves of bread

And don't forget MILK! WTF? I guess the swampy, fetid smells of the post-hurricane air, the acrid smell of sweaty people who've lost power just doesn't have the right ambience unless it's punched up with the odor of soured dairy products.

Pop-

Agree- if anything Carter was too honest to be a politician so I'll take his word over Rice.

As for the other Rice- from what I understand the price jumped dramatically this week on the global market and restaraunts made a run on big stores like Sam's Club and WalMart.

I bought rice last night and it didn't appear like anyone was raiding the shelves. But the thought of a shortage is pretty scary.

Big Trouble is probably my favorite Carpenter movie with Escape from New York in a close second.

Oh, and Kim Cattrall AND Suzee Pai...Hubba-hubba.

Dude - right there with ya. That was back when Cattrall was at her Porkys uber-hotty best.

Condi Rice is one of the worst liars in recent memory. Even stumbling, bumbling Bush is at least smart enough to couch his words in stammering, vagueness, and hyperbole instead of flat out stating BS.

Obama should have stayed miles away from criticizing Carter, but he decided to play the self-righteous American bully card like the neocons do. It nearly knocked him down to the McCain level for me. It shows the ways we might be disappointed by a Pres. Obama if he is going to triangulate to the right on everything the way B Clinton did. (Please, please prove me wrong Obama.)

The rice shortage in the USA is minor compared to the Pacific Rim. Shortages in national foodstocks in places like Fiji are occurring now. For us, it is a minor problem; we switch to wheat or switch to American varieties of rice other countries turn their nose up at.

The San Francisco treat!

You can't trust the Peanut Man, he talks to turrists and as everyone knows, the world needs less talking and more bombing.

Holy hell, does Big Trouble In Little China kick vast gobs of ass.

You are making a mistake about two different terms with the name of RICE. One is creating massive change in foreign policy around the world and the other works for the President.

Hmmm. I hadn't read Obama's statements until you brought it up. I found this off the AP-

"As I said before I think it was a bad idea for president Carter to meet with Hamas without having recognized Israel or denounced terrorism or acknowledged previous agreements given that they are not heads of state," he told a Pittsburgh press conference.

Yep. That's stunningly ignorant of what's going on in Israel and the west bank. Hamas is going to need to be part of any peace accord. Period. That will not happen with them first taking the positions Obama and I assume the Wise Old Men in Washington are pushing.

At best Obama's statement can be seen as wimpy going along with what everybody else says so this is not a campaign issue posturing. At worst it means he's just as stupid as Clinton, Bush and pretty much everybody else in our national government and media when it comes to the region. Either way it would've been better for him not to say anything, IMO.

randal-

Agreed on Carter and Big Trouble in Little China. If I could just mix those two together somehow...

No, you see... Never mind. Great points!
