Why do we feel it's necessary to yak about bullshit in order to be comfortable?

Ladies and gentlemen the state of our union is... funky fresh.

As we head into tonight's speech with the administration promising to push to revitalize Bush's domestic agenda let's remind ourselves that his sheer incompetence at foreign affairs isn't limited solely to that arena. He's plenty incompetent at things that are closer to home.

One need only to think back to that wonderful time a little over a year ago when bodies floated down the streets of New Orleans to remind oneself of just what a poor administrator President anti-Midas can be. I would hope congress would keep that in mind. He's failed at everything he's tried. Listen politely to his speech and his "new" initiatives and then ignore him and go back about the people's business.

I'm right there with ya-

In my response, I refer to a play by Max Frisch called "Biedermann und die Brandstifter" or ("Biederemann and the Firebugs" as it's known in English, although "Arsonists" is more like a word I would use).

There's a line in the play, "Biedermann, Jederman", (Biederman, everyman) - This Beidermann is a hypocrite, who is greedy, caustic to his family and pretentious yet obsequiously polite to his "guests" the aforementioned firebugs.

See, most folks can't to lose face in public, they have to appear as "good citizens" at all times....

So they all talk about crap to maintain the illusion of goodwill and "everything's alright, nothing to see here"....

No real opinions, no real action.

We are going to Mars, Iraq has yellowcake uranium, we will spend lots of money on hydrogen fuels, good job Brownie.

The SOTU transcript is now filed in the fiction section at the library.

We went to Mars when this guy got elected (oh wait - he didn't), and we haven't been back since.

We're going to Mars?

I hear men are from there.

Personally Venus sounds a little better.

Nudge, nudge, wink, wink.

I assume I can get that play at the library?

It sounds interesting.

Probably - you may need to call and see if the local county library has a copy - sometimes they may only have one, so it has to be sent over from whichever branch it's at.

I think I have one somewhere, but it's in German.

The best things about the German Theatre (like Brecht, Durrenmatt) is that it's so deliciously pointed, the English version doesn't quite deliver the nastiness of all the characteres involved as well.

I'm with Don. Impeach is the only response to this President.

I couldn't bring myself to do my civic duty last night and watch the state of the union address. I'll wait for Jon Stewart to deconstruct it.

I believe the correct word is "Chimpeach."

The response by Webb was pretty damn good, however.
