ahhhhhhh... What fuck are they thinking... Their one card and they blew it. Weak Weak weak

Somehow I knew this would happen. The dems are thinking only of politics, not what is best for the country. They don’t want to get blamed for not supporting the troops and now they’re gonna get blamed for continuing the war. Idiots.

I believe the Dems knew they had the vast majority on their side and that Bush was caterwauling from a very weak position and yet still they chose this course.

I don't think it was fear of looking bad, but maybe fear of something else that we didn't hear about publicly. In any case, the Democrats have betrayed their base yet again with Clintonian politics.

A small ray of hope for more progressive candidates in the next round of primaries? I hope so.

Yeah, that's one of the things thats just nuts about this. Even the POLITICS of this situation are wrong as far as the Dems go. They are so fucking out of touch it's pitiful.

Well they did get a minimum wage increase out of the deal. I'm sure that'll be great comfort to the thousands of maimed troops that come back and need a job not the mention the millions of Americans facing an economy that's sucking trillions into Bush's Iraq fiasco.

Completely fucking asinine positioning on their part. I hope to God every one of these assholes hears an earful when they get back for the coming recess.

I'm very dissapointed. Right now I really don't care who is elected in the next election. Unless it's all independents.

Interesting analysis...
Why Congress Caved to Bush
by Patrick J. Buchanan

Obviously written by a Republican, but the point still remains that while Republicans pander to their base, Democrats feel like theirs is stuck with them and can be abused.

In the Senate, the bill passed overwhelmingly, 80-14, though three of four Democrats running for president -- Sens. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., Chris Dodd, D-Conn., and Barack Obama, D-Ill. -- were in the minority voting against funds for the wars.

"This vote is a choice between validating the same failed policy in Iraq that has cost us so many lives and demanding a new one," Obama said in a statement. "And I am demanding a new one."

Clinton, in a statement, said she voted against the legislation "because it fails to compel the president to give our troops a new strategy in Iraq."

She said she wished President Bush "had followed the will of the people and signed the original bill we sent which both funded the troops and set a new course of phased redeployment."

Don-

Buchanan's crazy but every once in a while he gets one right.

The Democrats piss on their base regularly.

You'd think they'd get the lesson of Nader/ Gore/ Bush but I guess they're to narcissistic to think the same thing will happen to them. Particularly the Presidential candidates.

Swine-

Obama and Hillary lost my support for the nomination when they waffled over this up until the vote. Hillary in particular still hasn't apologized for her initial vote for the war.

Their vote was pure politics and not principled, IMO.

At this point I want Edwards to win the nomination.

There's a lot of stuff I care about with regards to politics but far and away it's that this war end. Whomever does that will get my vote.

Droid-

Personally I'm voting for the Small Furry Creatures from Alpha Centauri party.
