So you see, the whole thing has been as inevitable as in a nursery rhyme.

It looks like the YouTube party may be over.

Viacom's billion dollar suit will lead to self-censorship at the very least.

Personally I don't see how the quality available via YouTube would cut into any of the business of Viacom. The sound is tinny and the video pretty low quality. If I was Viacom I'd build my own free video model and include advertising instead of suing. But what do I know? I'm just a consumer that finds YouTube pretty damn cool.

Oh well.

The genie is out of the bottle now. If people can't see it on YouTube, they will find other venues.

Look at the detail on that fecal matter!

Swine,

Xactly. I simply can't fathom what the hell the entertainment companies are thinking. YouTube isn't competition.

don,

Yup. I've watched a couple of episodes of Heroes on NBCs website for free. They run sponsor ads between acts just like commercial tv. Huh.

Kind of like the RCAA suing college kids, trying to shut down youtube is shooting Viacom's potential consumers in the head.

They need to grow and adapt their business model to the new age baby!

They won't win. The law's pretty clear - it's up to the copyright holder to ask them to take down the offending content, and if they do - they can't be sued. Of course the content will be almost immediately replaced.
