The sky is pocked with stars. What eyes the wise men must have had to see a new one in so many.

I'm ashamed to admit I watched the Academy Awards and was marginally entertained. The biggest letdown of the night was Peter O'Toole's eigth jobbing at the hands of the academy even though I'm sure Forrest Whitaker gave a superior performance (haven't seen either film.)

I've got a soft spot for O'Toole as a fan and would've loved to see his speech. He looked downright shoked when the announcement came which was quite a bummer. Add to that the fact this will probably be his last chance, well, very depressing.

I watched only a few minutes. I was happy for Alan Arkin.

Me too.

I assume he was the only "makeup" oscar they were giving last night.

But he deserved it.

Lifetime achievement baby!

I agree Swine, but I doubt we'll see him make another trip across the pond. The guy doesn't look so hot.

I really like the Oscar given to the women executive (can't remember her name) who seemed like a nice, decent person in a dirty business.

I was bummed about the supporting actress one, I really wanted Penelope Cruz or the Babel actress to win. Cate Blanchette would've been ok, but hasn't she already won one?

Dreamgirls was ok, but it's not as good as the stage show (I saw it in San Fran 20+ years ago).

Overall I had a good time, but what was with Ellen dissing Philip Seymour Hoffman (announcing Best Actress I think)?

If somebody knows the backstory, or that Hoffman is a jerk, enlighten us.

I wanted to add a bit about honoring Jimmy Doohan. He died two years ago. they forgot him last year.

They couldn't get the montage engines up to full power two years ago.

Swine,

I'm surprised I missed that. In a sick way the montage of stars lost is one of my favorite parts of the show. I always have a few names I'm looking for. This year it was Darrin McGaven, Don Knotts and Maureen Stapleton.

Droid-

Too funny. Seriously. Too funny. I hurt something.

Ladybug-

I didn't see that stab at Hoffman and the only thing negative I've read about him is he's in that method acting mode of Dustin Hoffman where they sometimes annoy their fellow actors.

I agree totally on best actress.
