Help me understand something if you could.Are we supposed to assume Obama is stupid because he uses a teleprompter? And why are we supposed to take accusations of stupidity seriously when they are made by people who are part of a political party that celebrates stupid (Bush, McCain, Palin, Quayle) as a matter of principle?
I'm seriously at a loss here.
Things "they" forget:
ReplyDelete1) With the exception of allowing a speaker to visually engage his audience more, how exactly is a teleprompter different from notes? Nearly every good speaker often uses notes. FDR, JFK and Regan can all be seen looking down at their podium occasionally.
2) Obama is actually a good speaker without a teleprompter as well. How many of his engaging stump speeches had teleprompters? He was great on Wait Wait Don't Tell Me's "not my job" segment back in '05 (and he says 'um' 98% less overall than Condoleeza Rice)
3) Can it be said that NO Republican politician used or uses a teleprompter or notes?

They criticize him for speaking well and carefully, after spending eight years with the worst speaker in history as their frontman.

I watched the speech and most of the questions, but not the post-mortem TV idiocracy.
ReplyDeleteObama is smart and speaks to the reality he wants to during these events. This is a huge improvement over Bush.
However, I find it sickening that not one reporter questioned the wisdom of Geithner's "of bankers, by bankers, and for bankers" plan. Economists I respect say it is ineffective at best and disastrous at worst, but 24 hours later nobody thought to address a plan that made the Dow climb several percent in one day as the beneficiaries celebrated their bounty.
Also, there is talk that companies like Goldman are publicly returning public money that they would have to answer to the government for and instead pulling it out through AIG to get the same financial benefit without the oversight.
Somebody sure could have asked about that.
Perhaps the President has good answers for this stuff. I would like to have heard what we had to say.

ReplyDeleteTypical Rovian politicking... attack the enemy on his/her strengths, reap the "controversy," and distract the sheep. Some of them will be convinced, on the strength of noise, that there's some truth to the charges, otherwise there would be no controversy, right?
ReplyDeleteAll you need to do is 1: ignore the noise, and 2: watch Obama in an unscripted press conference. Don't play their game.
Teleprompters are evil because they believe in abortion and evolution, of course.
