If I have to read another variation of the "Obama's tax cuts will only save me $14 bucks a week, big deal" meme I'm going to do that magic trick Heath Ledger uses in the "Dark Knight" on myself. Seriously. I have the pencil ready on my desk and everything.Who the hell thinks $14 dollars a week won't help them out? Is everybody as rich as Paris Hilton? Or just conservatives?
I make a pretty good salary but even then I did some quick math and that money could mean a lot of good things for me. In a month that increased cash could do any of the following...
- Fill up my gas tank twice.
- Buy all the bread and milk on my grocery budget.
- Pay for that oil change I've been putting off because I was short on cash.
- Pay for one of #1Animefan's visits to her counselor since the insurance won't cover it.
- Pay for my wife's medicine prescription.
I could go on but you get the idea. I wish these aspiring Mr. Howells who apparently light cigars with $100 dollar bills would just shut the hell up.
$14 a week is almost $60 a month.

That money goes back into the economy, and helps create jobs.
Why do they think only rich people create jobs?
I'm not good with numbers, so I had my son do the math and if 200 million people get $14.00 per week for a year, that's 145 billion dollars per year.
ReplyDeleteI will say, and I can't believe I'm saying this, that I prefer the lump sum I got under Chimpy because that went to pay off a good slice of the heating bill. That said, anyone who doesn't want their fourteen bucks is more than welcome to send it to me.

I think they were afraid people would save lump sums like that. They want the money spent. That's the point.

ReplyDelete$14 per week is $728 per person per year. Isn't that more than the lump sum under shrub? (And, it probably bears repeating, was only there because that was the price congressional dems demanded to go along with it; the repiglicans vehemently oppposed that component until it came time to take credit for it)

ReplyDeleteI'm giving up groceries for Lent so that I can pay down my heating oil bill. Fourteen dollars a week will keep us in peanut butter, bread, milk and tea...might get to through in a dozen eggs, too.
