Twenty-four years ago don snabulus and I pulled on our Vans, slipped into our bell bottoms, ran the giant comb we kept in our back pocket through our feathered hair and waited in the pouring rain outside the Memorial Coliseum to see The Police in the Ghost in the Machine tour.Tomorrow night we're putting on our garter socks, squeezing into our Bermuda shorts, running a #2 razor through what's left of our thinning hair and heading on down to stand in the sun and see The Police on their reunion tour.
Hopefully I won't drive Don completely nuts with repeated jokes about him "standing too close to me."
You should sing "Roxanne" like Eddie Murphy did in "Beverly Hills Cop" in the drive down there. Really loud.

This was one of those deals though that I told myself years ago if they ever got back together for a reunion I'd pay whatever it cost to go.

ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite punk acts from the late '90's did an instrumental called
"Sting Can't Possibly Be the Same Guy Who Was in The Police" and it's so true.
Don't get me wrong, the first album I ever bought on my own was Outlandos d'Amor and I still have my vinyl, but man, did sting go from punk to lite-FM. He was good in Lock, Stock and two Smoking Barrels, though.
I am stoked and ready to go! I will talk to you today man. We need to reach Synchronicity on a meeting place.

I'll let Dean handle the full report, but the mini-report is that it was wonderful. The song selection was about perfect, the musicianship was very good (Copeland was excellent), and the company was exquisite (60% of Dean's family).
ReplyDeleteThe only bad stuff was not concert related...traffic to the venue was horrible and leaving was worse (I sat in my car for well over an hour before anyone moved, apparently there was an accident on the only road out). Another triumph of poor civic planning. I am looking into C-Tran if I go back to the Clark Amphitheater.
I'm glad you guys enjoyed the show. I probably should have warned you about the traffic though. "Poor civic planning" and "Clark County" go together like ham and eggs.

I hope it was a great show...I too saw that tour back in the day...many years ago....We will need a full report ;-)

Next price up was actual seating for $100.
Front row was close to 500.
