This town ain't big enough! Not for me and that frilled-up, flirtin', man-rustlin' petticoat, it ain't!

You think you have principles?

This guy has principles.

RALEIGH - L.F. Eason III gave up the only job he'd ever had rather than lower a flag to honor former U.S. Sen. Jesse Helms.

  1. You know, it's nice to see that someone with 29 years of experience and promotion to a supervisory role are considerations valued more highly than disingenuous political genuflection. King George III would be proud to see his former colony finally coming around and forcing subjects to bow to the majesty of royalty.

"The King is dead! Long live the King!"

(former Rawlee resident who, BTW, has pretty much concluded that dissent is effectively dead)

  3. I was thinking along Spirula's lines.

Aren't his skills and experience worth more than a dead guy?

Of course, it's not the dead guy, is it? He DISOBEYED.

  4. Good for him, no one seems to stick up for their principles anymore...especially when it costs actual dollars in earned income.

Like Carlin says, nobody wants to give up their "cell phones that make pancakes".

  8. Wow.

Part of me thinks, however, that because of the kind of person he was, Jesse Helms was not worth losing a career over.

Another part thinks this: Helms is second only to Thurmond for being a total dickweed, but half-staffing is a ritual for ALL senators/congress-people and should be done regardless. I'd feel a bit weird if, when Jim Jeffords dies, some jerk Republican refuses to lower the flag for him.

  11. spirula-

It is nice to see honor isn't completely dead, though.

    bradda-

I now have a new hero.

Howard the Duck will be disapointed.

    Ubermilf-

Aren't his skills and experience worth more than a dead guy?

One would think. Of course Helms ability to piss off thinking people survived him.

    ladybug-

My cell phone makes waffles and I'm not giving it up.

    franiam-

    Isn't it?

    randal-

    iron balls

    ladybug-

    Doris Day. Boohhahaahaaha!

    Arkonbey-

I see what you're saying and agree to an extent but Republicans are already dissing democrats that die.

I don't think we need to lionize racist assholes.

    freida-

    Agreed.

    zaius-

A movie? Here's the script in it's entirety-

BOSS: Raise the flag to half-mast in honor of Jesse Helms.

    EASON: No. I quit.

    BOSS: Oh, okay, alright then.

  12. Dean: I don't think it's lionization. That would be something as abhorent as voting to make Jesse Helms' birthday a holiday. Half-staffing the flag is something every senator gets, regardless of left, right or center. It's not an acknowledgment of the man's accomplishments, on the acknowledgment that a senator or congressperson has died.
