Just a quick note on my Indy obsession- I saw the Raiders about two months after it had premiered when I was dragged to the theater by a buddy. I was actually a fairly snooty film fan when I was younger and had no interest in seeing something that was obviously so commercial.
The movie blew me away.
I have a theory that some of the greatest things we experience in life whether food, movies or whatever are experiences we're initially reluctant to try. So many of the best experiences in my life were things I kind of had to be talked into. Occasionally I find that my reluctance is justified, but more often than not I wind up kicking myself because I waited so long to try something new.
I hope they pull off this movie in the way we hope they do. It would be nice to have a good adventure film that doesn't involve the current obsession with dark themes and faux "realism." Some filmmakers seem to think it is Halloween 12 months per year.

But I do hope Short Round shows up.
I was a tad cynical when I first heard about the new Indy film, though after the previews came out I immediately became a 10 year-old boy again, all giddy and ready to be amazed. I think it is the theme music that gets me every time!

Dean: I've been a big JW fan for a while, but listening to Holst's Planets Symphony for the first time this winter had me scratching my chin in thought. JW was absolutely a BIG Holst fan.

Elfman wrote a great score for Edward Scissorhands IMO. He just wrote the same score for every film since.
Holst's "The Planets" is pretty cool, especially the Mars section. However, the greatest film soundtrack is the 1968 version of "Planet of the Apes", in my humble opinion.
ReplyDeleteAfter that, I would lean heavily towards James Bond movies, any Annette Funicello beach movie, and of course Sandra Dee in "Gidget".
Oooh... Bond. I hadn't even thought of that. I assume you're meaning the real/ Connery Bond soundtracks like Goldfinger or You Only Live Twice. I can close my eyes and hear those songs.
