Rather than mark the 911 attacks by laying a wreath at ground zero, President Bush would be better served by repeating his actions on the day of the attack: listening to a children's story and then hiding under the bed on Air Force One as it flew him to Nebraska.
Since this date has become an odd sort of holiday with the expectation that everybody take a moment and remember what they were doing on that horrible day here's mine: I spent the day wishing Bill Clinton was still the President rather than a fucking incompetent frat-boy.
Strangely enough I've had no problem remembering that feeling in the years that've followed.
Clinton? What about Al Gore, he's the one that was actually elected.
ReplyDeleteI worked at for a Disney company when it all went down. I remember we were all in the break room watching horrors on television when the president of the company came in (we never saw her - we were just lowly office drones - having her come into OUR break room just made everything more surreal). She made a seemingly polite comment in executive doublespeak that boiled down to "You should probably go back to work." Everyone just stared at her with confused expresssions, she might as well have said "You should probably all turn into walrusses." And then she shambled off to her crypt. Disney hasn't changed.
That's a sobering story. I don't know anyone that got any work done that day.
